Beeville Community Chorus announces December Christmas concerts

The Beeville Community Chorus will present an evening of choral music at the Mission Espiritu Santo in Goliad State Park Saturday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. There will be a $3 state park entrance fee per person.

Dr. James Lee is the artistic director and Nona Schorp is the accompanist. The choir will open the concert with four sacred anthems, three of which are by composers of the Renaissance Period (1600), Palestrina, Jacob Arcadelt and Michael Praetorius.

To celebrate the Advent season (the awaiting of the birth of Christ), the choir will perform a piece entitled An Advent Awakening. Masters in This Hall will begin the Christmas portion of the concert as the choir depicts the Christmas Story in song.

Fall-Christmas concert

On Tuesday, Dec. 8, the Beeville Community Chorus will present its annual Fall and Christmas Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Gertrude R. Jones Fine Arts Auditorium on the Coastal Bend College Beeville campus. Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for students and children.

The first section of the concert will include four sacred anthems, three of which are by 15th century composers, Palestrina, Jacob Arcadelt and Michael Praetorius. The fourth anthem, Agnus Dei, by Ruth Elaine Schram, a living American composer, is in the style of the Renaissance with more contemporary harmony.

To celebrate the beginning of the Advent season, the choir will perform A Prayer for Advent accompanied on the cello by Sarah Milnarich. Masters in This Hall will open the Christmas music as the choir begins to depict the Christmas Story in song.

The First United Methodist Church Bell Choir will join the choir as they sing Can You See The Star? Donna Davis and Jose Arredondo will add additional nuances on the hand drum and finger cymbals. Linda Ray, a member of the alto section, will accompany the choir on The Winter Moon of Bethlehem and the Christmas favorite, Fum, Fum, Fum.

The choir will perform a new and exciting arrangement of We Three Kings as the members prepare to close the Christmas Story portion of the program with A Gift of Love Was Born That Day.

The concert will close with an arrangement of traditional carols, Christmas Carol Jamboree, which will have the audience leaving in a happy holiday mood.

Handel’s Messiah

The Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah will be presented by the Beeville Community Chorus Saturday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. in the Gertrude R. Jones Fine Arts Auditorium on the campus of Coastal Bend College.

Admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for students and children. Seats will be reserved and patrons may purchase tickets online by going to www.coastalbend.edu or by calling the CBC Theater Box Office at 354-2545.

Patrons may also come to the Fine Arts Building to the box office to purchase tickets.

The box office will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, Dec. 1.
