The Redfish and Lady Redfish hosted Victoria Cobras Thursday for two action-packed games. The Lady Redfish came away with a 27-19 win but the Redfish dropped their game, 32-15.

The Lady Redfish started hot and stayed hot throughout the game, scoring 8 in the first, second, and third quarters. The Lady Redfish finished the game victorious with a 27-19 win.

“The Lady Redfish played a lot better defense this game taking the ball away from the Cobras several times,” Coach Zach Crawford said. “They also rebounded the ball better as well. The girls were also in better shape for this game as opposed to the previous game.”

Crawford said he was proud of the girls’ performance.

“They have been working hard on their shots and running their defense and offense correctly,” Crawford said. “We have also been doing a bunch of running to get into shape.”

The Lady Redfish scorers include Lauren Kelso 11; Loryn Hernandez, 10; and Laura Alvarado, 6.

The Redfish started the game cold.

“We were really nervous because the Cobras were running a defense we have not played against yet,” Coach Crawford said. “After the Redfish settled down and got control of the ball they played well. We tried some new stuff on the defensive side of the ball and my boys responded very well, taking the ball away several times.”

The Redfish could not overcome the point deficit and dropped the game with a 32-15 loss.

“I am very proud of my boys,” the coach said. “Even though we got behind the boys never gave up. You can not teach that, that just comes from the heart, which our boys have a lot of.”

Leading scorers for the Redfish were Oscar Tabora, 5; Joseph Gonzales, 4; Nathan Alvarado, 4; and Daniel Alvarado, 2.

The Redfish and Lady Redfish will travel to Victoria Monday to take on Faith Academy. The Girls game will start at 6:30 p.m. followed by the boys.

“Come out and support your Redfish and Lady Redfish,” said Coach Crawford.
