The Lagarto Community Club would like to wish everyone in the community a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season. Christmas is a busy time of year for everyone but the Lagarto Community Club members took time out to join together to enjoy friends and fellowship. On Dec. 10th, we held our annual Christmas meeting with beautiful decorations, a pot luck luncheon and white elephant gift exchange. Our hostesses were Joyce Sattler, Mary Salmons and Lucy Cantu. Linda Black read us an inspirational story entitled “The Tablecloth”. We sang “Happy Birthday” to our birthday girls Mary Salmons and Linda Black. Lucky Chole Trevino won the door prize, a beaded decorated box to hold matchboxes.

As new business, we discussed meeting on Dec. 16th following the senior luncheon, to prepare gift bags for the Live Oak Nursing Center. Members donated enough gifts to fill 100 bags. The club purchased sugar free cookies and Commissioner Richard Lee donated bananas. Members will meet on the 17th to deliver the bags to the residents and to sing Christmas carols with them.

The club is planning an outing on Dec. 22nd to the La Gloria Christmas House. We’ll shop at the Santa Store and then eat lunch before we return home.

Dottie Meyer reminded us that the club’s 40th anniversary is coming up in March 2010. She stated that for the 30th anniversary we had an Open House inviting local officials, past members and the community. We all agreed we would like to do something similar so formed a committee to plan the festivities. Dottie Myers, Trish Arink and Jessica Keese volunteered to be on the committee and Linda Spiess will cover the event in local newspapers.

Lucy Cantu brought up the need to invest in some new quality signs to mark the entry to the club house and to advertise our activities such as the fall bazaar and spring rummage sale. Several suggestions were made as to the type, size and place to have them made. Prices will be explored and presented at a later date.

Our next meeting will be Jan. 14th. We would like to invite anyone interested in joining our group to attend.
