The community of George West continues to amaze me though I have been here a very short time. The recent article on Miss Elizabeth Emerson buying gifts for the residents at Live Oak Nursing Home brought tears to my eyes. What a fine example of a community we have and what a great future to look forward to with examples such as Miss Emerson!

Roughly the same week last year when I was offered a job here at George West, I read another article in The Progress about the senior class at GW not taking their senior trip and instead using the money to help people whose homes were damaged during the fires at Lagarto. At the time my wife and I knew that this community was a special place. Nearly 8 months later we still feel the same way and it grows even more when I read stories such as a youth spending her own money for blankets for the elderly. In a matter of 6 months I, myself have lost my grandfather and grandmother and to see such generosity and selflessness is an awesome thing to witness. After getting to work with her parents here at GWISD, it is no wonder that her ethical and moral values are so high!

Being a coach sometimes means rolling the dice when you decide to pick up a young family and move to a new community. My wife, two young children, and I have truly been blessed that God has found a way to put us here in George West. Stories such as Miss Emerson’s are a true reflection of what this great community has to offer and what they have to look forward to in the future. I am very proud to call George West home.

Sincerely,

Coach Joey Hart, Head baseball coach

George West
