“We knew going into the game that Port Aransas would be tough and they shot well from the floor, while we couldn’t get anything to fall,” said Lady Eagle head coach Darcy Siddon.
“It is frustrating when you are working so hard and your shots aren’t going in but the girls did a great job of staying positive and still shooting instead of shutting down.”
The hot-shooting Lady Marlins hit for 14 in the first quarter while the home team recorded nine points. It was a 25-14 game at the half and the Lady Eagles were still hanging around.
A cold shooting third quarter did in the Pettus girls as they managed only four points while the visiting Lady Marlins made 13 markers. Port Aransas held a comfortable 38-18 lead going into the final stanza.
The visitors played consistent basketball and hit for 14 fourth quarter points while holding the Lady Eagles to eight.
Lindsay Parker led the Pettus scoring with seven points. Mari Carrizales finished with five.
Sahanon Mendez and Savannah Del Bosque each recorded four. Chloe Garza and Hailee Schauer both contributed three in the loss.
Parker cleaned the boards for eight rebounds while Carrizales had four rebounds and three steals on the night.
The Lady Eagles played in Woodsboro last night (Friday) and will host Yorktown on Tuesday evening.
