A quick-paced first period on both sides of the court led the Beeville varsity Lady Trojans to a 57-40 victory over the visiting Miller Lady Bucs on Friday night.

The Lady Trojan defense created turnovers which led to baskets and the Beeville girls raced to an 18-7 lead after one quarter.

Both teams were hitting in period two as the Lady Bucs poured in 17 points but the Beeville girls added two to their lead by hitting for 19. It was a 37-24 contest at the break.

Things slowed considerably in the second half. Miller scored just 16 second half points while the Lady Trojans hit for 20 over the two periods to earn a 57-40 win over Miller.

“We played well, shooting 45 percent from the field, and put up an effective defense against Miller,” said Lady Trojan head coach Chuck Youngblood.

Randi Maupin led the Beeville scoring with 13 points. Chelsea Contreras added 11. Anyssa Barbosa followed with nine points while Natalie Dominguez came off the bench and scored seven. Alisa Patterson supplied six tallies. Theresa Amador contributed five and Ashley Galle had four second half points. Victoria Elizalde completed the Beeville scoring with two on the night.

The Lady Trojans were in Port Lavaca on Tuesday night before taking on Rockport-Fulton at home on Friday evening.
