“Our team focused very well under the circumstances. We outscored Woodsboro 18-2 in the first quarter,” said Pettus head coach Steve Marbach.
The Pettus varsity went on to an easy 65-30 victory over the home-standing Woodsboro Eagles.
The win improved the Pettus district record to 4-1 and set up a first place showdown with the 5-0 Yorktown boys last night on the Wildcats home court.
“I was very happy with our guys and our focus. It’s tough to see any player get injured, especially one of your best athletes,” said Marbach.
“Our guys did a great job of focusing on the task at hand. Now we have the chance to go to Yorktown on Friday and try to earn a share of the district lead.”
The Wildcats escaped with a one-point win at Port Aransas on Tuesday night to keep their district record spotless.
Three Eagles had double-doubles at Woodsboro with Joe Jefferson collecting 23 points and 15 rebounds. Ryan Beck followed with 14 points and 15 boards. Eric Montez played well and contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds to help the Eagles dominate the glass on Tuesday night.
Clay Brown had nine points while Phillip Lantz added three markers. McKinzie Torres had an off night scoring, with just two points, but helped on the boards with eight rebounds. Grayson Huskey had two tallies.
Pettus traveled to Yorktown on Friday and will play Falls City on Tuesday night at home.
