The Skidmore-Tynan Lady Cat volleyball team just came off its best season in quite a while. Co-district champs and a trip to round two, area competition in the playoffs made for a great season for the S-T girls.

Several members of the Lady Cats were recently acknowledged for their fine season with All-District 30-2A awards.

Outside hitter Rachel Mengers was selected by the district’s coaches as the Offensive Player of the Year. Mengers led the Lady Cats in kills and blocks and was a true force along the net for head coach Judy Whatley. Mengers also picked up several points a game at the service line for Skidmore.

Freshman D’Anne Wilder moved into the starting lineup and her play at the net and along the back line was definitely noticed by the coaches. D’Anne Wilder was chosen as the district’s Newcomer of the Year. She shared the award with one of the Odem Lady Owls.

All-district first team honors went to Kathy Mireles and Devon Wilder. Teammate Jennifer Pueblo was selected to the second team all-district for her season.

The S-T girls placed three players on the honorable mention list with Samantha Villegas, Stephanie Leal and Kathy Acosta making the elite list.
