Refugio, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties sponsor the center. The center serves approximately 1,900 adults with mental illness, 550 children and adolescents with an emotional disturbance or mental disorder and 200 people with developmental disabilities.
Since opening 40 years ago, the center has provided services to more than 36,000 people.
“Gulf Bend Center is privileged and honored to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2010,” said Donald Polzin, executive director.
Polzin said a series of special publications and events will continue through the remainder of the year for the public to attend.
