A traffic stop for running two stop signs led to second-degree felony narcotics arrest Friday night.

Benny O’Neal Green, 27, of Refugio was charged with possession of 104 grams of cocaine.

If he is convicted, Green could face 10 to 20 years in prison.

Officer Jamie O’Reilly was on patrol when Green turned off West Ward Street onto Swift Street without using a turn signal and failing to come to a complete stop. The driver again failed to come to a complete stop at Power and Commons so the officer made a traffic stop.

Green did not have a drivers license or proof of insurance, according to O’Reilly’s report. The officer received consent to search the vehicle where he found a devise used for grinding marijuana, with marijuana residue still inside.

Under the dash of the vehicle, O’Reilly found a plastic bag with a white, rock substance inside that field-tested positive for cocaine.

“This arrest was significant due to many citizen complaints on this particular individual,” said Sgt. Dean Ochoa, narcotics officer.

Green was also cited for driving without a license.

“We are taking a proactive approach to individuals participating in the distribution of narcotics in our city and will continue to actively pursue them,” Acting Chief Fernando Garcia said.
