The Refugio Bobcat Baseball teams opened their season at home with two victories against the Ingleside Mustangs.

The JV team set the tone for the evening with a 9-4 win followed by a pitcher’s duel, with the Bobcats moving ahead with a 3-0 shutout.

The varsity game was a pitcher’s duel that remained scoreless through the first four and a half innings. In the bottom of the fifth inning Marquis Brown and Connor Lowrie got consecutive one-out singles to put runners on first and second.

Logan Koonce followed with a bunt that the pitcher threw into right field allowing both Marquis and Connor to score.

Aaron Perez also had an RBI in the inning as he drove in Logan to build the lead to 3-0.

That is all it took as Jared Sternadel, four innings and Jourdan Ortiz three innings took the hill and combined for 12 k’s and the shutout.

With the 3-0 victory the Bobcats took their 1-0 record on the road to the Cuero Tourney.

This weekend at the annual Cuero tournament the Bobcats played two games on Friday against Cuero and Shiner St. Paul, and then played a final game Saturday against Industrial.

Friday’s opening game against Cuero was a very impressive game that featured great pitching from Jourdan Ortiz. At the plate Brain Ramirez and Aaron Perez both had home runs that lead to a 7-5 victory.

Later that evening the Bobcats were not as successful as they dropped a lopsided game 16-1 against St. Paul.

Saturday the Bobcats returned to face Industrial in an exciting game that resulted in a 11-7 victory for the Cats.

All Tournament selection for the Cuero Tourney was Aaron Perez who was 7-11 with a HR, 2 2B’s, 3 RBI’s, and 4 runs. Brian Ramirez was also selected to the All Tournament team as he was 5-11 with a HR, a 2B, 3 RBI’s, 3 runs, and 1 win on the mound.

The Bobcats are now 3-1 for the season as they travel to Mathis Thursday, for the San Pat/Live Oak Tourney.
