Lady Horns place second at Woodsboro tourney

The George West Varsity Softball team competed in the Woodsboro Tourney this past weekend.

The Lady Horns placed second in the tournament. It was a pool play tournament. The Lady Horns went 4 and 1 in their pool.

In the first game the Lady Horns defeated Freer 15-0. Maggie Ham pitched a three inning shutout. The entire starting line-up got at least one hit. Shawna Talley and Tiffany Garza each had two hits. Kayla Krietsch and Kate Jimerson each scored three runs.

In the second game George West was defeated 2-0 by Kingsville Academy. Kingsville won the tournament with a 5-0 record. Kingsville scored both of their runs in the first inning. The Lady Horns bats were quiet. The Lady Horns only got three hits. Marley Snider, Salina Chapa and Maggie Ham each had hits.

In the third game the Lady Horns took on the host team Woodsboro. The Lady Horns played one of their best games of the tournament. They defeated the Lady Eagles 6-1. The Lady Horns hammered out seven hits. Snider had a triple and a single, Kayla Wallek had two singles, Jessica Lichenberger, Tiffany Garza and Ham all had singles. Snider and Ham had two RBI’s each. Shawna Talley also had a RBI.

On Saturday the Lady Horns defeated Shiner 6-0 and West Oso 10-4.

The Lady Horns defeated powerhouse Shiner 6-0. The Lady Horns had eight hits in the game. Snider and Lichtenberger both had two hits each, Wallek, Jimerson, Krietsch and Ham all had one hit. Defensively the Lady Horns played well committing no errors. Ham threw her fourth shutout of the season. Ham also struck out 15 Lady Comanche’s.

In the second game G.W. defeated West Oso 10-4. Tiffany Garza pitched a complete game. Garza struck out seven Lady Bears. Talley, Ham, Chapa and Snider all had two hits. Wallek, Garza, Jimerson, Krietsch and Brooke Schroeder all had hits for the Lady Horns victory.

It was a great tournament! Marley Snider, Salina Chapa and Maggie Ham made the All Tournament Team.
