“We had a good game. Before we went up to bat in the top of the third, I told the girls that we should be scoring every inning and that we should play at our level, not at the level of our competition,” said head coach Edward Bocanegra.
“They responded by scoring 14 runs in the top of the third.”
The Beeville girls scored just three runs in the top of the first to grab an early lead. Lady Trojan hurler Courtney Perez shut down the Bucs’ offense and blanked them over the first two frames.
“Our defense was strong and had a good game, and limited our errors,” said Bocanegra.
The Lady Trojans failed to score in the top of the second but things changed in the top of the third.
It was still a contest at 3-0 with the Lady Trojans in front. But, by the end of the visitors’ at bats in the third, the Beeville girls held a 17-0 advantage.
The Lady Trojans batted around and got 14 runs in the top of the third to put the game out of reach. Perez allowed one run in the bottom of the third but the Lady Trojans won on a 15-run rule after three innings.
Hitting highlights for Beeville included a home run from J.J. Hernandez, a triple from Anyssa Barbosa, who also collected another hit on the day and three RBI’s, a 1-2 performance from Sera Quiroga with two runs batted in and April De Los Santos, who powered her way to two hits in three trips with four RBI’s.
The Lady Trojans had the help of seven Miller errors as the local ladies picked up just seven hits in the game, but they were timely.
Perez got the win on the mound for the Beeville varsity.
The Lady Trojans were in Pleasanton on Friday afternoon to meet the Eaglettes in a non-district encounter.
The win at Miller improves the Lady Trojans’ district record to 1-2.
The Lady Trojans host the Port Lavaca Calhoun Sandies on Tuesday with the JV game starting at 5:30 p.m.
The varsity contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
