Mrs. Lucia Ramirez turned 100 years old recently at her home in Beeville. She was surrounded by family and friends during festivities over the weekend, celebrating this milestone in her life.

A century later, some things are significantly different, but others are remarkably unchanged, she noted.

Lucia Ramirez was born March 11, 1910, on a ranch near Clareville in Bee County. Her parents, Thomas Garza and Felita Villanueva, had 10 children: four girls and six boys.

She married Porfidio Ramirez Sr. in 1935. The couple had four sons. Indeed, her family has grown since then. Lucia now boasts 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She thanked the nurses from Exclusive Home Health & Hospice for their care and for allowing her to remain in her home.
