Lady Eagles post three shut-outs

The Lady Eagles dealt three straight shut-outs in district play. First they shut down the Charlotte Trojanettes, 3-0 on March 23, followed by a 20-0 win against Pettus on March 26 and an 12-0 victory over the Runge Yellow Jackets on Monday.

In the game against Charlotte, the Lady Eagles struck first in the top half of the second inning when Samantha Lopez reached first on a costly error by the third baseman. With two outs and Lopez, Meagan Niemann executed a perfect RBI slap hit to score Lopez from third.

The Trojanettes mounted an attack on the Lady Eagles but great pitching by Megan Carter and outstanding defensive plays by Mallory Jessop at third base, Malorie Nesloney at first base, and a throw down to Chelsea Bluemel at second by Hannah Carmichael kept the Trojanettes from scoring.

The score stood 1-0 until the top of the seventh inning when once again Lopez reached base on a costly error on a hard hit ball to the short stop. Melissa Cisneros laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt into the right field corner to score Lopez.

With two outs and Ashley Barraza pinch running for Cisneros, Barraza moved into scoring position on a Nesloney sacrificed. Barraza scored on an RBI line shot base hit to left field by Bria Brown.

Carter would retire the last three Charlotte hitters to post a one hit, 7 strikeout, shut out.

The Lady Eagles went on the road for a battle of the Lady Eagles in Pettus on Friday, March 26.

The ‘Boro Lady Eagles scored often for a 20-0 victory in a shortened five inning game.

In the first inning Chelsea Bluemel scored on a RBI single by Megan Carter.

The WHS Lady Eagles opened the floodgates in the second inning.

Meagan Niemann lead off with a hit followed by an inside-the-park home run by Nesloney.

Brown collected three hits. Carmichael knocked in Brown with a base hit and Bluemel reached base on a walk, with Jessop reaching base on a fielders’ choice.

Bluemel and Jessop scored on a Lopez 2 RBI single. Cisneros brought in Lopez and Carter with a fielders choice making the score 8–0.

In the top of the third, Brown scored on an inside the park home run. Bluemel reached first on a line shot back to the pitcher. Jessop knocked in Bluemel with an RBI double and Carter hit a single for her second of three RBIs, making the score 11–0.

In the fourth inning Niemann reached base on a bunt single and later scored on a sacrifice RBI to left field by Nesloney. Brown reached base on her third hit of the game and later score on a RBI single by Bluemel making the score 13–0.

In the top of the fifth inning Kasie Fierova got a base hit and stole base. Melinda Hernandez would collect an RBI single to score Fierova. Niemann reached base on a walk.

Nesloney knocked in her fourth and fifth RBI with a single to score Hernandez and Niemann. Carmichael hit an RBI single, knocking in Nesloney.

Bluemel got a free base followed by a double by Jessop. Carter got her third RBI of the night to make the score 20–0. Carter would pitch a no-hit shut out with seven strikeouts.

The Lady Eagles ended the first half of district play with a 4 wins and 1 loss.

The Lady Eagles went on the road to Runge to take on the Lady Yellow Jackets.

The Lady Eagles lead off by scoring three runs and never looked back. Carmichael walked and stole a base. Bluemel hit an RBI single followed by a single by Carter and a double by Samantha Lopez, and a hit by Niemann.

Carmichael lead the second inning with a single followed by Bluemel’s second RBI of the day. Bluemel stole her second base then scored on a Jessop single. Carter hit an RBI single, followed by a Lopez walk and a single by Niemann to make the score 8–0.

The Lady Eagles scored two more runs in the fourth inning on a single by Cisneros, a walk to Nesloney and a two RBI single by Brown.

Bluemel lead off the fifth with a walk, a sacrifice by Jessop, a walk to Carter, and a 2 RBI single by Barraza to make the final score 12–0.

Carter once again was superb in the circle, pitching a no hit seven-strikeout performance.

Parents night will be the Lady Eagles next game on Tuesday, April 6 at 6 p.m.

Coaches ask that all varsity parents be there at 5:30.

The Lady Eagles will take on the Yorktown Kitty Kats.
