“It was a really tough loss, but we need to bounce back and prepare for Ray on a short week. We’re still in the hunt for a playoff spot but we need to beat Ray,” head coach Edward Bocanegra said after the game.
Ray was in town on Thursday night to meet the Lady Trojans.
Moody’s girls opened with 10 runs in the top of the first to show they meant business. Leadoff hitter Kaylee Villanueva slammed two home runs in the inning to lead the way.
The visitors piled on three runs in the second and then put the game away with a seven-run explosion in the top of the third. Villanueva powered her third home run of the evening in what would be the final frame of the game.
“We knew Moody was going to come in and hit the ball, which they did well, and we knew we had to limit our errors. We committed too many errors,” Bocanegra said.
“We have a resilient bunch and I know that we will bounce back against Ray.”
The Lady Trojan got their one run in the third off Moody’s winning pitcher, Marina Gallardo. Nissi Barrientes reached on an error on a slow roller to second. Destiny Herrera worked for a walk to put runners at first and second. Herrera drew a throw at first from the Moody catcher and Barrientes took advantage of the play to scamper into third. April De Los Santos then grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Barrientes with the team’s lone run of the game.
The Beeville girls will travel to Gregory-Portland on Tuesday before venturing to Victoria for a non-district game next Friday night.
