Got an excuse? Just a lion in the street

Making excuses is a fine art for some people. The Bible talks about excuses that keep us from doing God’s will. They are like lions in our street that are real or imagined.

Excuse number 1: “I can’t go to church Sunday. It might or might not rain.” The truth is, it doesn’t matter. Go to church anyway, Heb. 10:25.

Excuse number 2: “I don’t want to be baptized by immersion because I have already been sprinkled and I might get all wet.” The truth is, you need to do what God says in the way He says to do it, Matt. 7:21.

Excuse number 3: “I don’t want to obey God now because I would rather have Him wait on me for a long time.” The truth is, when Jesus is Lord you will do what He says immediately, Luke 6:46.

An excuse can be so ridiculous. For instance, “The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets,” Proverbs 26:13. Nearly all excuses are so stupid that we wonder how they could come from intelligent people. It is easier for us to excuse than to accomplish, but not nearly as profitable. The excuse-maker makes excuses; the success-maker makes good.

“Our moving world accepts not excuses. It moves on and leaves the alibier. The public won’t buy it—might as well quit trying to sell it. We only accuse ourselves when we excuse ourselves,” Leroy Brownlow.

“And oftentimes excusing of a fault, Doth make the fault the worse by the excuse,” William Shakespeare. “Give a thousand reasons, but never an excuse,” Unknown.

“And they all with one consent began to make excuse…” Luke 14:18. No More Excuses—Excuses Are Useless!
