Skidmore-Tynan school trustees couldn’t decide who should be the new board president so they will take the issue up at their next board meeting on Nov. 24.

After canvassing ballots from the Nov. 4 election, trustees nominated two candidates for board president, present President Rick Olivares and Trustee Ken Haggard.

Olivares, Danny Gonzales and Zeke Ortiz voted in favor of Olivares. Haggard, Keith Petrus and newly elected trustee James Bennett voted for Haggard.

Trustee Cipriano Guerra was absent.

The board went into closed session for about 15 minutes to discuss the tie vote and how to resolve it.

They reconvened in open session and renominated the same two candidates. The following vote was identical to the first vote.

The board voted to keep the item on the agenda until a majority of trustees pick a president.

Meanwhile, Olivares will continue to serve as president and Gonzales, who served as secretary, will serve as secretary and vice president.

Trustee Ysrael Salinas served as vice president during the 2007-08 school year but did not run for re-election this fall.
