The Lagarto Community Club had a very short meeting for April with a brown bag lunch so we could spend our day in preparation for our big sale on Saturday! We had 13 members present. Our hostess was Linda Avila and she decorated with an Easter theme. We had one birthday this time, Chole Trevino. We sang “Happy Birthday” just for her! Jessica Keese gave the inspiration entitled “Singing Your Praises”.

Our “old” business was a discussion of our senior meals and how to encourage better attendance. We agreed to more advertising, so would like to encourage any senior to join us for a lunch for $2 on every Wednesday at the Old Lagarto School. We thought about having a Bingo game afterwards if there was enough interest.

New business started with asking for volunteers to work at our booth for Pioneer Days on April 17th. Connie Reardon, Jessica Keese, Dottie Meyer, Mary Salmon and Joyce Sattler volunteered and Dottie will make a banner for the booth. It was suggested we check on the need for a new floor at the kitchen’s entrance and that we be sure to put back our sign indicating the Lagarto School being built in 1925. Also our new pear tree needs iron stakes to support it as it grows. The members approved the sale of a doll house to Judge Huff.

As all of the current officers agreed to serve another year, it was moved and seconded that the following list of officers be installed at the next meeting. The officers are Lucy Cantu, President; Linda Avila, Vice-President; Linda Black, Secretary; Connie Reardon, Treasurer and Linda Spiess, Reporter.

We want to remind our area high school seniors that it is scholarship time. We give out scholarships to two high school seniors to help with their college expenses. Applications will be accepted from the three high schools in our area. April 23rd will be the deadline for turning them in. See your school counselor for an application.

A committee will read the applications and select the recipients. These will be awarded at our May meeting.

Our 40th Anniversary Open House on March 20th was a huge success! We had a large turnout and everyone enjoyed the festivities.

The meeting ended and we spent the rest of the day setting up for our Spring Rummage Sale set for Saturday April 10th. The sale was successful although not as large a turnout as hoped. There were several other activities in the area at the same time.

We want to thank the eight vendors that sold their wares to make it more of a special activity and also all of those shoppers that came out to support us.

Our next meeting will be May 13th. We would like to invite anyone interested in joining our group to attend.
