The Skidmore-Tynan Lady Cat softball season came down to Saturday’s battle for third place with the Lady Greyhounds in Taft.

The game would decide which team would represent District 30-2A in the final postseason spot available. The Lady Cats powered their way to a 13-8 victory and a date with the Industrial Lady Cobras in the bi-district round of the playoffs.

That bi-district contest will be played on Friday at 7 p.m. in Refugio.

In Saturday’s contest the Lady Cats broke open a close game with an offensive explosion in their half of the sixth inning. It was a 5-2 contest heading into the sixth with the S-T girls holding the slim, three-run lead.

“We had a big offensive inning in the sixth but then they followed with a big inning in the bottom of the inning,” said head coach Gary Epps.

The Lady Cats scratched their way to eight big runs in the frame to jump out to a 13-2 advantage heading into the bottom of the sixth.

The Greyhounds barked loudly in the sixth with six runs of their own but just made it 13-8 in favor of the S-T girls with one inning left to play.

Neither team scored in the seventh to keep the final a 13-8 win for the Lady Cats to secure the final district playoff berth.

Breanna Hinds went a perfect 3-3 with two runs, with two RBI’s and she worked the Taft pitcher for two walks to reach base five times in the win. Adrinna Puga was 1-2 with one run and three RBI’s.

Gabbie Garibay had two hits in four trips with one run and two runs knocked in for the Lady Cats. Aaliyah East was 2-4 with a double and a run. Lexi Lopez was 2-5 with two runs and one RBI.
