A scheduling hiccup had the Lady Trojan varsity basketball team on the road on Monday night, traveling to Victoria to meet the always tough Lady Vipers of Memorial. The road trip did not sit well as the Vipers stung the Beeville girls 61-41.

“Victoria is a good team but in order to get where we want to be we have to beat teams like Victoria,” said Lady Trojan head coach Greg Gonzales.

Victoria stormed out to a 13-7 lead at the end of one period. The Lady Trojans fell further behind as the Lady Vipers captured the second quarter, 20-9, to take a 33-16 lead at halftime.

The pace picked up in the third period, but the Lady Vipers still controlled the contest. Memorial hit for another 20 points in the third while holding the Lady Trojans to 12 points. It was a 53-28 tilt going into the final eight minutes.

The Lady Trojans outscored Victoria in that final stanza by 13-8, but it wasn’t enough to really scare the Lady Vipers. The final went to Victoria 61-41.

Hillary Hennig led the Beeville scoring with 11 points. Brandy Perez added eight points and Cassandra Vela hit for seven markers. Erin Tabb was bottled up inside and managed just six points on the night. Chelsea Contreras contributed three. Shanise Wilson, Melanie Chargualaf and Apryl Cortez all had two points in the loss.

The Lady Trojans played Sinton on Tuesday night and then will regroup after the Thanksgiving break to meet Calallen on Tuesday night in Corpus Christi. The Floresville varsity is hosting the Jaguar Classic tourney next weekend and the Lady Trojans will compete there beginning Friday afternoon.
