A 74-year-old Beeville man injured in a serious automobile accident on Feb. 13 died Thursday.

According to reports, Juan Flores was previously injured in a wreck in the 1500 block of North Washington Street that evening.

At the time, Flores was rushed to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi for treatment.

Beeville Police Department Detective Eddie Garcia said shortly after the accident that Flores was in serious condition.

According to reports filed by Sgt. Chris Vasquez and Matt Miller, Flores was northbound on North Washington Street at about 7:30 p.m. when his 1982 Chevrolet pickup was struck by two southbound vehicles.

Police believe Flores may have been crossing North Washington Street at the time, coming from a nearby Stripes convenience store.

His truck was hit by a 1999 Nissan and then a 1994 Honda struck both of those vehicles.

Several teenagers from the other two vehicles and a 49-year-old woman who was in the truck with Flores were taken to the emergency room at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville where they were treated and eventually released.

Witnesses to the accident reported to police that they thought the two vehicles that hit Flores’ truck may have been involved in some kind of speed contest.

Information taken from the accident scene and the witnesses was turned over to the office of Bee County district attorney for further investigation.

I have researched the articles re: the two fatal crashes that have occured at 1500 Washington and Inez intersection. May the LORD comfort the families. Something has to be done about puttting a stop light or stop sign at that intersection. I am planning to write a letter to the Texas Transportation Commission. The more letters they received regarding this matter the better and faster response we will receive. Please join me in mailing a letter to the commission, we could perhaps save another family from going through the devastating loss of a death in the family. The address to the Transportation Commission is: 125 E. 11th St.

Austin, TX 78701. Thank you for those that will take the time to mail your letter out.
