“Few other professionals touch so many lives the way teachers do,” Hinojosa said. “I have voted for legislation, throughout my time in Congress, that supports education and our educators, and I will continue to champion our teachers, our students and education”.
The Democratic-led 111th Congress recognizes the critical role that K-12 education plays in creating a strong new foundation for the American economy, Hinojosa said.
In December, the House passed the Jobs for Main Street Act, which includes a critical $23 billion Education Jobs Fund that would prevent the layoffs of tens of thousands of teachers in the coming school year if the Senate passes it, and it is signed into law.
Hinojosa added, “This Teacher Appreciation Week is a good time to thank our educators for their tireless dedication to helping our children.”
