The seventh-graders swept through the Hornets as the Trojan “B” team came from behind to gain a 25-12 victory. The Beeville boys trailed 4-1 after a slow first period. The Trojans were just warming up as they outscored the Flour Buff team 24-8 the rest of the way.
The Trojans were led by seven points from Joseph Munoz. Matthew Constante hit for six points along with Andy Dang. James Larakers contributed four points and pulled down five rebounds in the win. Garrett Keys contributed with two points, two rebounds and two steals.
“This was a good win for us and a confidence builder,” said coach Bobby DelBosque.
“Other players that contributed to the win included James Thomas, Mauricio Solis and Ryan Guerra. These players may not have scored but they played swarming defense against the Hornets,” said DelBosque.
The win puts the “B” team record at 2-1 on the year.
The seventh-grade “A” team used an up-tempo offense and a tough defense to swat the Hornets 44-23.
“The tone of the game was set by the defense. It created numerous turnovers and we continually scored on the fast breaks created by the turnovers,” said coach Bryan J. Grams.
Ryan Casarez led the Beeville scoring with 15 points in the win. Bobby Quiroga followed with 10. Cody Vasquez tallied seven. Jeremy Flores and Tyler Stewart added four points. Tristan Pelitire came in with two. Daniel Amador pulled down five rebounds to help the Trojans control the boards. Anthony Ruiz played tough on defense with three steals and two blocks. Scott Olivo also came up with two steals for the Trojans.
The win keeps the seventh-grade “A” team undefeated at 3-0 on the season.
The eighth-grade “B” team put up a tough defense and a deliberate offense to cage the Hornets 16-10.
“The eighth-grade ‘B’ team played great defense and controlled the ball on the court,” said coach Alan Burkett.
Cordell Aguirre had five points and also hauled in four rebounds and dished out two assists. Tyler Cortez added two points and helped on the boards by pulling down two caroms. Ramon Martinez also had two points with four rebounds and one assist. Eric Gamez sank six points along with five rebounds, and Eric Dehnert had one point with three rebounds and two assists.
The “A” team of eighth-graders fought hard over the first two periods to tie the Hornets but a cold snap went through the gym in the third period and the Beeville boys were held scoreless over that period. The Flour Bluff boys were still hitting well and raced off to a 41-28 win over the Trojans.
Joe Ray Garza led the Beeville scoring with ten points. Hunter Hardy followed with nine points.
The Trojans play on the road again this Thursday in Calallen. The opening tip is set for 5 p.m.
