The George West Chamber Member of the Month of May is The Ice Box.

The Ice Box will celebrate 41 years in business on August 13. The business has six employees, Anita and Braulio Carvajal, Carmen Castro, Peggy Deviney, Rosendo Ruiz, David Carvajal, and three family employees, Monty, Mary Kay, and Bandy.

The nature of business is a convenience store, bulk fuel sales, and delivery. The business affiliation is Chevron fuel.

The Lyne’s wanted to live and raise kids in George West. After graduating from University of Texas in 1968, a friend, Mr. Lee Mahoney, suggested that George West could use another convenience store, or “drive-in” grocery as they were called at the time. Five employees of the main competitor were hired and the store opened on Aug. 13, 1960.

The Ice Box’s community involvements include member of George West Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, and former GWISD board member.

The Lyne’s personal interest include the six grandchildren, San Antonio Spurs, University of Texas and the George West Longhorns.
