The visitors jumped out to a quick lead with a tough pressing defense that created turnovers and easy baskets. The Lady Cats were down 16-7 after the first eight minutes and found it tough to mount a comeback attempt.
The Lady Pirates extended their lead to 16 points, 28-12, at the end of the first half and never were challenged.
The Poth girls slowed things down in the second half and the S-T girls played right with them. The visitors hit for nine points in the third period and another seven in the fourth quarter. The Lady Cats managed just five in the third period but had their best offensive quarter in the fourth as they recorded 11 points to finish the contest. The final was all Poth at 44-28.
The loss was the sixth of the season for the Skidmore-Tynan ladies to go along with 10 wins.
Three Lady Cats hit for six markers in the loss. Sagan Gabbert, Courtney Vandever and Alexis Schmidt all recorded six for S-T. Devon Wilder followed with five points and Ashley Scott had three. Rachel Mengers completed the Lady Cat scoring with two.
The Lady Cats took on the alumni in their annual match-up with the “old-timers” on Monday night. The S-T varsity will then travel to McAllen next Monday to participate in the Valley tournament.
