Tuesday’s volleyball match with Orange Grove went the distance but the Skidmore-Tynan varsity won just two of the five games in a close battle in Orange Grove.

Game one went the way of the S-T girls, 25-15, for a 1-0 lead. The second contest was even closer but the Lady Cats prevailed and looked to have the match under control with a 25-20 victory over the Lady Bulldogs for a 2-0 lead.

Orange Grove must have gotten a big pep talk between games two and three. OG came out and fired back at S-T with a 25-11 win to get back into the match, trailing 2-1.

The hometown girls carried the momentum from game three and captured game four, 25-1,6 to even the match at two games apiece and force a fifth and deciding contest.

The fifth game in high school varsity volleyball is a race to 15 points, but you must win by two points. The final game was close with neither team giving an inch. The two teams took the deciding game into extra points but the OG girls got the final two for a 16-14 victory and a 3-2 win in the match.

No statistics were available for the match.

In the freshman match the S-T youngsters were winners in their best of three match, 22-25, 25-11 and 26-24, in another closely played contest.

The junior varsity Lady Cats lost in two straight, 25-16 and 25-10, to the young Lady Bulldog JV.

The Skidmore-Tynan ladies are playing in the CCISD Spikefest this weekend. On Monday, the Lady Cats will be in Sinton for a tri-match with the Lady Pirates and Cuero.
