Editor:

I have a solution to County Commissioner Tuttle’s fears of watching the county go broke.

Perhaps the double-dippers on the commissioners court - those that inherited wealth, or have three jobs, all with incomes, could simply forfeit their salary and benefits one year to prove their sincerity.

Which commissioner’s job is solely that of a commissioner? Do commissioners document the legitimate time spent working on county business?

When the commissioners’ number one concern is to better the county, not their individual precinct, things will get better.

It should be, “Think not what the county can do for me but what can I do for the county.” JFK said it all.

Look at other counties and what they have done for economic development without the resources we have. Do some research; we are not the only fish in the pond.

Let’s not kill the only industry we have. The only chance we have to get more tax-paying businesses here is through economic development. So, you take away their funds?

What did you do for the future?

Maybe a little more oversight, more support from the commissioners by lending a hand would help. A one-man band cannot make music loud enough.

Commissioners, put some support-time in helping economic development, attend more of the meetings that the economic development director now attends alone.

You cannot hold back and expect development to go forward at the same time. Thank you.
