Tuesday’s evening of volleyball in Port Lavaca began with the ninth-grade girls taking the court. The young Sandies proved to be too tough and too talented for the young Lady Trojans as they went on to a straight-set victory in their best of three match-up.

Set one was all Port Lavaca as the Sandies jumped in front early and just kept it going. The finals went to the home team, 25-8.

In the second set, the Sandies captured a 25-11 victory. The win made the final a 2-0 win for the Port Lavaca ninth-graders.

“We played a skilled team that wanted the win more than we did. Tonight, it was very unfortunate that we did not play to our skill level,” said freshman coach Amanda Escobedo.

Jasmine Soliz helped the Lady Trojans score three points while she served. Abby Silva and Cheyenne Del Bosque contributed several kills in the match, according to coach Escobedo.

The junior varsity girls lost in two straight to the Sandies 25-10 and 25-8,.

“The Lady Trojans were unable to overcome the strong hitting force of the Sandies. They struck fast and hard,” said JV coach Katina Walker.

The Lady Trojan volleyball squads had Friday off but will be back on the road on Tuesday night to meet the Victoria East Lady Titans.
