The varsity girls won set one in a fairly close encounter by the score of 25-21, but it was a dominating performance the rest of the way for the Lady Cats.
Set two was a 25-15 victory to put the Lady Cats in front 2-0 in the best of five series. The third and final set had the Lady Cats secure the win with a 25-18 victory. Kathy Acosta recorded five kills while Kamy Kimball and D’Anne Wilder each contributed four.
Wilder set up nine points for assists and Brittany Garza added five assists.Garza served two aces for the Lady Cats while K. Acosta had one ace in the three-set match.
Kimball played well at the net with three blocks as did Celina Acosta, who matched Kimball’s block count. K. Acosta led the team with 11 digs. Sister C. Acosta came up with nine digs and Samantha Minter contributed five digs in the match.
The victory raised the S-T varsity record to 16-10 overall and they are 5-2 in district play.
The freshman girls had a rough first set, but came out on top, 25-23. Brittany Herrera had 11 points off her serve to help in the win. Serving woes created a problem in set two as the young Lady Bulldogs took advantage of the poor serving to edge the Lady Cats, 25-12.
In set three the Lady Cats dominated for a 25-4 victory and a 2-1 win in the best of three match. Good serves were contributed by Herrera with six, Haley Scott with eight and Naomi Garza with another six to get the win in the third set.
The JV girls also won in two straight over the Bulldogs. The first set went S-T’s way, 25-21, and they took the second set, 25-18.
Erica Abrigo was the leading scorer with eight points off her serve in set one. In set two Emily Salinas served for six points, Erica Abrigo added seven points and Anna Berry contributed six points off her serve.
On Saturday, the Lady Cats will be in San Diego to battle the Lady Vaqueros.
