It’s been two months since Live Oak County said goodbye to three former local gridiron stars who now call Kansas and Iowa home. Shannon Taylor, Morgan Ross, and Thaddeus Pierce have adjusted to dorm life, college studies, and new teams and all three have the privilege of playing for nationally ranked teams.

Shannon Taylor, previously #32 for the GW Longhorns, is a member of the Friends University Falcons football team in Wichita, Kansas. The Falcons are currently ranked #25 in the NAIA Coach’s Poll. Thaddeus Pierce, formerly #66 for the Longhorns, and Morgan Ross, formerly #11 for the Three Rivers Bulldogs, are both members of the Northwestern College Red Raiders in Iowa. The Red Raiders are currently ranked #17 in the same poll.

These young men made Live Oak County proud when they wore their respective school colors and they continue to do so. When contacted for comment, each of these young men were doing homework.

Shannon Taylor had this to say about his college experience, “Our football team is very close knit. I really enjoy being a Falcon.” Head Coach, Monty Lewis says, “Shannon has done a tremendous job since arriving on campus. His potential is limitless. As he learns and grows in our offensive scheme, the coaching staff and myself feel like he will become an All-American Player. You can’t coach size and heart and Shannon has both. It’s obvious that he’s been well coached coming out of George West High School. All he needs is a little time to learn what we are doing here at Friends University and so far he’s done a fine job. He’s already seen some action and we are counting on a lot more from Shannon as the season continues to play out.”

Thaddeus Pierce is extremely happy about the weather. “The best thing about playing football at Northwestern College has to be the weather. I don’t miss those 110 degree days.” Thaddeus also added, “It’s been a great experience playing college football and not many get this opportunity.”

Coach Matt McCarty, Defensive Coordinator of the Northwestern College Red Raiders had this to say about Thaddeus, “Thaddeus continues to improve throughout the season and has done well playing on the JV team. He has a promising future if he continues to work hard and improves each day.”

Morgan Ross is enjoying the competition level at Northwestern College. “The coaching staff at Northwestern College makes playing fun and the competition level here is unbelievable. Everyone on the team was a stand-out in high school. Academics are most important here at Northwestern and getting a good athletic-academic schedule is important.”

Coach Joel Penner, Offensive Coordinator of the Northwestern College Red Raiders says, “We are excited about the impact Morgan is having and will have on our program. Having Morgan red-shirt means he will be around for a fifth season. This is an effort to build a championship program, though he has the abilities that could be utilized even now. We hope to find more quality student-athletes from Texas who will have a similar impact.”
