The agenda items included Fall fund raisers, upcoming band contests, football play-off performance schedules as well as the Christmas Concert and proposed Christmas dinner event.
Treasurer Tammy Kerr gave the financial report. Discussion followed concerning the end of year band trips and possible scholarships for graduates.
This is a busy time of year for the band as the musicians transition from marching music to concert performance music.
Dec. 4 will see numerous George West band members at All Region Auditions at West Oso. On Dec. 10-11, those who qualified will be at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi for a two day All Region Band Clinic and concert.
The annual Longhorn Band Christmas Concert is a holiday highlight for the community. This year’s concert will be held on Monday Dec. 6 in the high school cafetorium.
Band director - Jim Cordani - shared details of the end-of-year high school band trip to Dallas. Students have been told about deposit deadlines. Treasurer, Tammy Kerr, will calculate service hours for students and parents to verify earned income credits toward the trip.
Participation in concession stands, events and fund raisers are a great opportunity for Band Booster Parents to serve the community, grow friendships and offset the expenses that coincide with a program the caliber of the Longhorn Band.
All parents of band students both Junior High and High school are encouraged to take an active part in the Band Boosters. The Boosters is open to those who recognize the importance of performance arts in our schools. Meetings are held in the Band Hall at 6 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month.
