The George West High School Robotics Team’s first competition proved to be successful.

On Oct. 23, Jeffrey Hardwick, Joseph Moore, Seth Pipkin, Maggie Ham, Wesley Iley, Zach McCallister, Joseph Gonzales, Jesse Cansino, Justin Bray, and Karley Blevins received sixth in the BEST (Boosting Engineering & Science Technology) tournament hosted by Texas A&M Kingsville.

BEST is a non-profit organization based at Auburn University in Alabama. Their mission is to increase the curiosity and interest of students in science, technology, engineering, and math oriented careers. BEST was founded in 1993 by two TI (Texas Instruments) engineers. Today, each year, over 11,000 students participate in the Fall competition.

The Robotics Team had a very successful day placing fifth overall out of 19 teams and The BEST award is a special token presented to the top three teams that epitomize boosting engineering, science and technology.

The Robotics Team is making improvements and renovations to their robot, and hopefully, in the end, they will turn out to be the “BEST”.
