Louis Valverde, 77, of George West died on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009.

He was born to Magdaleno Valverde and Josefina Carvajal on July 6, 1931 in Mineral. He married Minerva Y Valverde on Dec. 25, 1955 at the St. George Catholic Church in Geroge West.

He was a retired pipefitter foreman in the oilfield industry. He was a member of the St. George Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the St. George Choir.

He is survived by his wife Minerva Valverde of George West; two daughters, Letisia Valverde (ex-husband, Mike Muniz), Norma Jean Valverde (Liborio Bacerra) all of George West; two sons, Jorge Louis Valverde (Edahlia Chapa), Jesse Valverde all of George West; two sisters, Lupe (Alejandro) Valverde Luna, Teresa (Jacinto) DeLeon all of George West; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Monday, Jan. 5, from 11 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West, with a rosary that followed at 7:30 p.m. Funeral was held on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 10 a.m., at the St. George Catholic Church in George West. Interment followed at the George West Cemetery with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating.

Pallbearers were as follows: Joe Casas, Louis Salinas, Ray Gutierrez, Eulalio Garcia, Bobby Ybanez, and Johnny Ponce. Honorary pallbearers included Raul Gonzales, Cosme Diaz, Hilberto Chapa, and Ray Ybanez.
