Live Oak County Fair rodeo activities planned

The Live Oak County Fair Rodeo activities will begin on Wednesday, March 16 with a girls’ barrel race. Books will open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will begin at 7 p.m.

Thursday, March 17 the rodeo queen contestants will do the riding portion of their contest prior to the county team roping beginning at 5 p.m. The books for the County Team Roping will open at 6 p.m. with the roping to begin at 7 p.m. Entry fees are $50 per person. Ropers enter one and draw one and may enter four times. The top 12 teams will come back during the rodeo with six teams Friday night and 6 teams Saturday night. There will be one set of buckles awarded this year.

The rodeo will be Friday and Saturday nights (March 18 & 19) beginning at 7:30 p.m. each night. Hat Brand Rodeo Company is the stock contractor for this CPRA approved rodeo with $2,700 in added money ($300 per event/$600 for team roping). Entry fees for bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding, girls’ barrel race, girls’ break-away roping, and steer wrestling is $70. Calf roping entry fee is $100 and team roping is $240 per team. Non-CPRA members are welcome to enter with purchase of $10 permit.

A dance featuring the Jim Byrom Band will follow the Saturday rodeo from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. with admission of $10 per person.

The books will open on Monday, March 14 for Rough Stock from 5-10 p.m. and Timed Events from 6-10 p.m. Books will also be open on Tuesday, March 15 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. for all events. To enter, call 1-800-54RODEO (1-800-547-6336). The draw will be posted at

Those interested in entering the mutton busting contest must be between 3 and 7 years of age on the day of the event and have submitted a completed entry form with the $20 entry fee. There will be 30 contestants each night and contestants can enter only once. Entry forms will be left at the appropriate school campuses, This and That Gift Shop in George West, and in Three Rivers at the Farmer’s Coop and Hefco. The completed entry form and entry fee must be received by March 11. Slots will be filled as entries are received.

Rodeo tickets are $6 presale and $8 at the gate. Presale tickets for the rodeo are available from the Queen’s contestants, in George West at This and That Gift Shoppe and Cleaners and JR Auto Service and in Three Rivers at the Farmer’s Coop and Hefco.
