Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6. The evening will begin with the Margarita Contest at 6 p.m. in the cook-off area. The County Team Roping event will be held in the Chestnut Arena at 7 p.m. Karnes County’s own American Idol contestant, John Wayne Schulz, will perform from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets for the evening are $10 for all.
On Saturday, May 7, the day will begin at 7 a.m. with a 5K run at Joe Gulley Park. The Kenedy Rotary Club will have its Pancake Breakfast at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church from 7 to 9 a.m. An 8 o’clock tee off time is set at the Karnes County Country Club for the George Dumont Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament. After a good run and a great breakfast, move downtown for the Bluebonnet Days Parade at 11 a.m. The grand marshals for the parade will be John Wayne Schulz and Capitol recording artist/Nashville star’s runner-up, Gabe Garcia.
The Triple Heat Cook-off will also begin at 8 a.m. at Chestnut Arena, and awards will be given at 4:30 p.m. Some lucky cook-off teams will take home plenty of trophies, and one special team will win the 2011 Karnes County Braggin’ Rights Trophy.
The 7th annual Car Show will be held at 2 p.m. on Alexander’s front lot. There are always plenty of great-looking cars in this car show, and the proceeds will benefit the Police Explorers Club in Kenedy for young people interested in going into the law enforcement field.
Saturday evening at Chestnut Arena will be full of entertainment and events. Gates open at 6 p.m. Again, ticket are $10 for all.
The winners from the Friday night County Team Roping will rope again for top honors, beginning at 7 p.m. in the arena. There will also be two events for the kids to enter: Mutton Bustin’ and a Calf Scramble. Miss Bluebonnet Days Queen and her court will be introduced during these events.
Don’t miss the entertainment on Saturday evening. Gabe Garcia and his good friend Jon Pardi, Capitol recording artist, will perform from 8 to 11 p.m. Afterward, Jarrod Birmingham and his band will perform until 1 a.m.
As there will be plenty of food and drinks offered in the arena area, attendees are asked not bring ice chests to this event. Parking will be on the outside of the arena. There will be two entry gates. One will be located at the corner of the arena and Alexander Auto Center and the other at the driveway into the arena. All persons will be required to have a wrist band.
Join the Kenedy Chamber of Commerce for a great weekend of wonderful events, fantastic entertainment and plenty of food and drinks for all to enjoy. A portion of the proceeds will go to the scholarship program that benefits Kenedy High School seniors each year.
