Area piano students perform in recitals, earn high awards

The Music Studio directed by Macie Gold held its annual recital Monday evening, May 9 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Three Rivers. Area piano students filled the room with music and were recognized with many awards. Throughout the year, students have the opportunity to perform and earn awards.

In the fall, the Coastal Plains Music Teachers Association sponsors their annual Hymn Fest. Students hear each other play two popular hymns. It’s open to all students of area teachers. Gold’s students earning a “Gold” rating were Anthony Garcia, Ashlyn Huff, Anakin Quinones, Nathan Quinones, Feliciana Pena, Bryant Roeske, Brendon Stroleny and Jace Ruiz. Earning a “Silver” rating were Carolyn Roeske and Sophia Sulaica.

Over 20,000 students throughout the state take the TMTA state theory test. Ashlyn Huff was awarded a gold pin for her grade of 97, and Brendon Stroleny received a silver pin for his grade of 96.

The Texas school systems have a UIL competition for music memory. Bryant Roeske placed sixth from George West and the George West team he was on placed third.

All of The Music Studio’s students participated in the annual Clavier Fest sponsored by the CPMTA. Students are rated by a visiting judge on their performance. They must play two pieces from memory. Awarded medals for a “superior” performance were Anakin Quinones and Bryant Roeske. Blue ribbons for an “excellent” performance were awarded to Ashlyn Huff, Feliciana Pena, Nathan Quinones, Carolyn Roeske, Jace Ruiz, Brendon Stroleny and Sophia Sulaica. Anthony Garcia received a red ribbon for his “good” performance.

Each year, students taking piano their first year with Mrs. Gold receive first year pins. Those awarded pins this year were Madison Leal, Anakin Quinones, Nathan Quinones and Jace Ruiz.

CPMTA allows the top students from area teachers’ studio to perform In their annual Honor’s Recital. Gold’s students invited to perform were Feliciana Pena, Brendon Stroleny, Ashlyn Huff and Bryant Roeske. At this performance, students are given their state theory and clavier fest medals and ribbons awards.

The Music Studio is located at Swinney Switch and Mrs. Gold also teaches at locations in Three Rivers and Alice.
