On Thursday, May 5, Brush Country Cattlewomen met for their monthly meeting at the Church of Christ Beatty Center in George West.

There were 33 members and guests in attendance, including Mary Ann Sehlke, guest of Patsy Crocker, and Dr. Jack Ormand, speaker and husband of member, Diana Ormand.

Many thanks goes to our May hostesses, Marilyn Bramblett, Mart Brysch, Sherri Vollmering, Joyce Warren and Grace Wilson for a wonderful lunch and program.

After morning treats and visiting, 1st Vice-President, Carole Jambers, called the meeting to order, standing in for President Jones. Mart Brysch read a delightful Mother’s Day poem and opened the meeting in prayer. Meeting highlights are as follows:

Beef for Father’s Day Chairman, Pat Mitchell, asked for new ideas for this year’s BFFD plans,. It was decided that we will have contest drawings for free $25 Beef Gift Certificates at Elder’s Meat Market in Beeville and the Super S Stores in Three Rivers and George West. Limited to school age children only, there will be one lucky winner from each store, who will be able to give their dad a wonderful “gift of beef” for Father’s Day!

Since our meeting happened to fall on the same day as beloved (but faraway) member, Helen Peter’s birthday, we called her up, during the meeting, and all 33 of us sang, “Happy Birthday!” to her. Yes, she was surprised. Helen is one of our nicest and most thoughtful members, so we were really glad to honor her with song and a group signed birthday card.

Many thanks to all members who bought Steak Out raffle tickets and voted to donate money to our state and national cattlewomen’s organization. In less than 20 minutes time, ladies, we managed to raise $900 for TCW, TBLT and ANCW. Way to go, Brush Country! By the way, we will also have more raffle tickets available for purchase at our next meeting.

The nominating committee, led by Betty Lyne, announced nominees for BCCW’s next 2011-2013 slate of officers. Elections will be held in June.

After the meeting, Dr. Jack Ormand, a practicing Cardiologist in Corpus Christi, gave a very informative program on heart health.

Dr. Ormand explained the main risk factors in heart disease and answered all questions our members had. When asked what diet he would recommend to overweight patients, Dr. Ormand said the E.L.F. diet works really well, which stands for, “Eat Less Food”. Makes sense, huh? Everyone thoroughly enjoyed his presentation.
