Joe A. Barrow a native of Simmons, TX and a resident of Bayou Vista passed away on Monday, August 29, 2011, surrounded by his family.

Joe was the owner and manager of Finance Service of Morgan City for 33 years. He was also the co-owner of MC Finance. He retired at age 72. He was a long-time member of the Louisiana Finance Association and the East St. Mary Parish Drainage Board #2. He was a football fanatic. He supported LSU and the New Orleans Saints until LSU played the University of Texas and the New Orleans Saints played the Dallas Cowboys. He was a 1951 graduate of Three Rivers High School Three Rivers, Texas. His Texas roots ran deep as he often said, “There are two types of people: those that are from Texas and those who wish they were!” When traveling on family vacations he taught his children to sing “The Eyes of Texas.” The family tradition was to get out at the Texas state line and kiss the Texas shaped stone. Joe and Dorothy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family in April of 2005. They enjoyed traveling and made numerous friends across the country. They were especially close to their Texas, Minnesota, Florida and Canadian friends. They were members of the Barrow Family Association where they studied the Barrow genealogy. Joe had a seven year battle with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy Bodies. His family would like to thank Dr. Robert Blereau, Dr. Edward Haight, and Dr. Arthur de la Houssaye IV, Total Pharmacy, Standard Drugs, Evelyn Lane of the Council on Aging, STATS Nursing Caring especially Cory Schouest and all of their staffs. Also, Journey Hospice including Glynn Blair, Loa Francis, Grace Guthrie, Felicia Johnson, Debbie Blanton, Claudine Ibert, Eleanor Lee, Tracy Bailey, Collett Poiencot, Brent Bourgeois, Doug Freeman, Faith Como, Eileen Connors Tuofels, Jean Smilie and the entire staff. They would also like to thank caretakers Liz Rondino and Valerie Costello. Joe will be missed by his friends and family, but especially by the love of his life Dorothy, his wife, his companion, his confidant and his best friend.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years, Dorothy Martin Barrow of Bayou Vista; one son, Brett Martin Barrow and wife, Charlene of Bossier City; two daughters: Donna Barrow Hoya and husband, Shane of Patterson, La.; JoAnna Barrow Purvis and Jessie Jr. of Walker, La.; seven grandchildren: Donald Ross Jr., Alisa Ross, Kyle Rodrigue, Kendall Rodrigue, Derrick Barrow and spouse, Kessie, Andrew Barrow and fiancé, Sharley Bailey and Brittany Barrow; two step-grandchildren: Nicole Breedlove and spouse, Ryan and Heather Purvis; two great-grandchildren: Alexis Ross and Amber Demers; two step-great-grandchildren: Natalie Breedlove and Adalyn Stolz; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ollie Barrow; four brothers: William Dabbs Sr., George, Lex and Wyvan Barrow and one sister, Rosemary Anthony.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, August 30, 2011, at Twin City Funeral Home beginning at 6pm until 9 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. and resume on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Joe will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum.
