Preparations are underway for the Eighth Annual Wild Hog Cook-Off to benefit the Live Oak County Boys and Girls Clubs. The benefit will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Live Oak County Fairgrounds between George West and Three Rivers on Hwy. 281.

This year this event will be IBCA (International Barbecue Cookers Association) sanctioned. The purpose of this association is to develop and bolster equitable competitive barbecue cooking internationally.

Cook-off organizers invite cooks to gather a team and come on out. There will be different divisions such as pork, pork ribs, brisket and chicken. The fee will be $30 per entry. A $1000 cash prize will be given to the grand champion. All teams must be registered and in place by 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.

This year a barbecue sandwich along with all the trimmings, chips, and tea will be served for $6.

In addition to the cook-off competition the day’s events will include a live auction beginning at 11:30 a.m. Last year’s items for bid ranged from weekend fishing trips, to hunts, to an assortment of hunting equipment, camping gear, meals at your favorite restaurants, plus an array of items with all proceeds going to support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Live Oak County.

The day will end with a dance being held that night at the Live Oak Coliseum with Gary Glen and the 20 X band performing.
