The McMullen County Cowgirls improved to 5-0 in district as they downed Benavides in five games this past Tuesday. The scores were 13-25, 25-22, 25-27, 25-18, and 16-14.

Benavides came out with a great deal of intensity and emotion and soundly defeated us in game one. The Cowgirls showed a great deal of determination in game two to get back in the match. In the third game we were up 21-15 at one point but the Lady Eagles rallied and had us down, 2-1 in games.

The Cowgirls kept battling and won game four in convincing fashion. The last game was really well played between both teams with some great rallies. The crowds from both schools were really into the match and it was a neat atmosphere.

Destinee Thomas played really well throughout the match for us as she had ten kills, four blocks, and some timely serves on the night.

Mamie Shelton also had seven blocks throughout the match and a big block on the last point of the match.

Allison Donnell provided her steady outside hitting and had some big aces in the match. Myranda Ruiz and Jasmyn Smith lead us in assists with 12 each.

Cheyenne Cruz had some nice passes from her libero spot while Hailey Ruiz, Rainey Hanks, and Danielle Dawson all had some big plays to help us get the win.

Our next two games will be with Agua Dulce and CCCP out of Corpus. The Cowgirls overall record is 16-8.

The Junior High Cowgirls also kept their perfect record intact as they downed the Lady Eagles from Benavides as well in two games.

The Cowgirls once again served really well and this gave the Lady Eagles problems. Our next junior high game will be with Pawnee.
