The McMullen County Cowgirls picked up two wins before the holiday break downing Victoria Christian Academy, 48-34 and then defeating Three Rivers last Tuesday by a score of 57-52.

Against VCA we didn’t get out of the gate very fast and were only up 23-17 at halftime. We came out with more intensity in the second half and pulled away to get the win.

Against Three Rivers we once again had a slow start and found ourselves down 13-4 at one point in the first quarter. We called a timeout and got refocused and bit by bit got back into the game. We took a 29-25 lead into the half. Three Rivers came back in the third and retook the lead and was up, 42-41 after three quarters. The Cowgirls hung tough and had a big fourth quarter out scoring the Lady Bulldogs 16 to 10 and got a nice win before the break.

Scoring in the VCA game as follows: Mamie Shelton with 17; Heather Gillin, nine; Danielle Dawson, eight; Anna Castren, five; Allie Donnell, four; Hailey Ruiz, two; Mariah Mesa, two; Lidia McBee, one.

Scoring in the Three Rivers were Destinee Thomas, 17; Shelton, 14; Castren, 12; Donnel, six; Dawson, four; Jasmyn Smith and Lidia McBee, two.

The Cowboys went 1-1 last week also. VCA downed the Cowboys at home, 52-40. The score was close at half with the visitors taking a four point lead into halftime, 23-19. VCA extended the lead to eight after three quarters, 39-31 and the Cowboys couldn’t recover.

Clay Atkinson lead the Cowboys in scoring with 19 followed by Colt Cruz with nine; Nolan Barnes, four; Brandon Patterson and Nathan Dillard, three; and Trey Kuentsler, two.

Against Three Rivers it was all Cowboys as they downed the home team, 70-39. The Cowboys were only up two at halftime, 29-27 but had a big third quarter out scoring the Bulldogs, 19-3 and then followed up the fourth with a 22 point outburst as well.

Scoring for the Cowboys were as follows: Atkinson, 22; Dillard, 19; Cruz, seven; Kuentsler, Kyle Engelking, and Brandon Patterson, six; Wyatt Shelton and Austin Serrata, two.

Both our junior high boys and girls posted wins over Charlotte last week. The girls and boys played really well and secured nice road wins.
