The Cowgirls and Cowboys did well in their own tournament this past weekend as the girls placed second and the boys placed fourth.

The girls won their pool defeating Kenedy, Cotulla, and Three Rivers. We were defeated by Falls City in the finals. This is the second time to play Falls City and they got the upperhand once again. We played much better in this game for the first half. We lead 10-9 after one quarter of play and then were down 22-19 with a little over two minutes before half until we let them have an 8-0 run to end the second quarter and they went in at half with a 30-19 lead which we couldn’t recover from. Their press really hurt us in the second half. Turnovers and press execution are still areas of concern for us and we’ll keep working to get better.

Destinee Thomas, Allie Donnell, and Mamie Shelton were named to the All Tournament Team.

On the boys side of things, they finished second in their pool defeating Kenedy and Three Rivers while losing a tough game to Cotulla. In the third place game they were defeated by George West. The Cowboys were playing a bit short handed versus George West but played hard and competed. Nathan Dillard and Clay Atkinson were named to the All Tournament Team.

The girls scoring were as follow: Kendey- 57-19 — Allie Donnell, 17; Mamie Shelton, 16; Anna Castren, eight, Danielle Dawson, four, Destinee Thomas, five, Mariah Mesa, three, Heather Gillin and Hailey Ruiz, two.

Cotulla - 52-43 — Thomas, 19; Donnell, 12; Smith and Anna Castren, six; Shelton, five; Dawson, four.

Three Rivers - 43-37 — Thomas, 14; Shelton, eight; Donnell, seven; Castren and Danielle Dawson, five; Smith and Heather Gillin, two.

Falls City - 57-24 — Shelton, eight; Thomas, six; Dawson, four; Smith, Castren, and Allie Donnell, two.

Kenedy - 54-52 — Clay Atkinson, 25; Nathan Dillard, 11, Trey Kuentsler, eight; Colt Cruz, five; Nolan Barnes, three; Austen Serrata, two.

Cotulla - 64-47 — Dillard, 20; Atkinson, 18; Cruz, three; Barnes, Kuentsler, and Serrata, two.
