The George West Longhorn Basketball team had another successful weekend finishing second at the Odem Owl Invitational. On Thursday, the Longhorns beat host Odem 55-51, led by Colton Guerrero’s 13 points. Sr. Seth Pipkin chipped in ten points and the remaining points were distributed as follows: Derek Cantu—eight, Justin Bray—seven, Alex Combs and Kendall Hensley—six each, Andrew Katzfey and Jessie Haros each had two, and Josey Blevens chipped in one point. In the second game of the day, the Longhorns lost to Sinton, 64-59. Against the Pirates, Cantu led all scoring with 18 points. Bray contributed 11 while Combs added ten points. Guerrero finished with nine points, followed by Pipkin with three, Katzfey , Haros and Joseph Feist each had two. We didn’t play as well as we could have on Thursday but we competed and had an opportunity to win both games.
On Saturday, the Longhorns showed complete domination in decisive wins over Woodsboro and Banquete, respectfully. The Horns crushed the Eagles from Woodsboro by the score of 74-47, led by Guerrero’s 17 points. Guerrero was followed by Bray with 12 points, Feist and Haros had nine points, Katzfey added eight, Pipkin had six, Blevens and Hensley had four, Cantu had three and Combs had two.
In the second game of the day, the Horns continued their dominance with a convincing win over Banquete by the score of 87-57. Combs led all GW scorers with 18 points, followed by Guerrero’s and Bray’s 15 each, Katzfey’s 14, Pipkin’s eight, Blevens’ seven, Cantu’s six and Feist and Hensley each added two.
Guerrero, Bray and Combs were selected to the All-Tournament Team. This was Guerrero’s and Bray’s second consecutive All-tournament selection.
