In the Charlotte game, we jumped on them quickly and had a great first quarter out scoring the Lady Trojans, 16-8. Charlotte had the upper hand in the second quarter, as they out scored us 15-13, but we went in at half with a 29-23 lead. The second half was back and forth with both teams staying close to each other. We prevailed in another nail biter and got a hard earned win.
In the Port Aransas game, we jumped on the visitors quickly once again as we did a great job of pressuring the Lady Marlins. We took a three point lead in at halftime and never relinquished it. This was probably our best defensive game of the year from a half court standpoint. We did a good job of keeping the ball in front of us and stopping dribble penetration. The Lady Marlins have a big post kid and we held her to twelve points. Heather Gillin, Destinee Thomas, and Danielle Dawson did a great job defending her all night. It was good to get a win before our District opener.
The Cowboys won last Friday night defeating our neighbor to the east, Falls City, by a score of 49-40. Falls City is always a tough place to win and to go over there and get a win was big for our team. We did a great job of attacking their zone which lead to several open looks and we knocked down big shots on the road which will help us come district time.
We have great Team chemistry and this should also really help us come district time, as well. Our players are doing a great job of understanding their roles and this has really helped us this season.
Our Junior High Cowgirls and Cowboys picked up wins as well last Monday as they both downed Charlotte convincingly at home. Both groups are really playing well this year and each team does a great job of distributing the ball. Port Aransas game, Mamie Shelton - ten, Destinee Thomas- nine, Allie Donnell- five, Danielle Dawson- four, Anna Castren- three.
