The eighth grade Bulldog boys traveled to Freer last week and came away with a 41-30 victory. The Bulldogs got off to a slow start, only scoring five points in the first quarter to Freer’s seven points. The Buckaroos mounted a second quarter surge to go in at halftime over the Bulldogs 15-10.

Three Rivers woke up in the second half as Chance Saenz had a couple of steals to score and take the lead. Josh Cooper also had three steals in the second half that converted into Bulldog points.

Defensively the Bulldogs played well in the second half and made key free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Cory Moya led the Bulldogs in scoring with 15 points and two three-pointers. Chance Saenz had 14 points and a three pointer as well. Kalli Escamilla had eight points, followed by Charlie Johnston and Sammie Simmons with two points apiece. Escamilla had seven rebounds and Simmons had six rebounds and four steals. Johnston added four rebounds in the victory.

The Bulldogs take on country rival George West tomorrow in Three Rivers and then host the annual Bulldog Junior High Tournament this Saturday. Both boys and girls Junior High squads will be competing in the Bulldog tournament Saturday.
