After a lead going into the second quarter, the half ended with the Lady Bulldogs trailing by one. After the third the Buckaroos were up by four with the Lady Bulldogs gaining momentum. After fighting a tough fourth quarter and having to use fouls to stop the clock, the Bulldogs fell 45 to 50.
Despite the score board the team lead by seniors Allison Dugger, Stephanie Saenz, Lindsey Ammann, and Lindsey McNeill gave the fans an excellent game. McNeill put 18 points up for the night followed by Saenz with 10. Juniors Morgan Franke and Kelley Barker tossed in five and four respectively while fellow junior Brittany Pullin tossed in three points. Megan Cruz and Ammann added two and Dugger put in a free throw finishing up the scoring.
The next game found the Lady Dogs in George West to finish the first round of district play.
After a defensive game from both teams the Lady Horns found the outside shots falling and went up 36 to 25 at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Bulldogs tried to answer in the fourth quarter, but could not seem to get a shot to drop.
After regrouping on the defensive end, the ladies fought to gain ground on the score board. With the time expired the Lady Bulldogs had come up short on the road.
Scoring on the night came from Morgan Franke who hit two threes and put in 10 points and McNeill and Pullin put in six a piece to contribute to the cause Friday night. Freshmen Harli Benham tossed in three along with Dugger. Cruz put in two free throws along with Ammann to bring the total to 32.
The Lady Bulldogs realize they have a hard road between now and Feb. 10th when they meet George West at home to finish district play.
The ladies are ready to hit the second half with a renewed commitment to finishing the season strong. They have been in this position before and know how to fight from behind. With a belief that the team is bigger than any one player, the ladies face Natalia on the road Tuesday night.
