Eighth-grade Longhorns winners

The George West 8th grade boys captured first place at the Three Rivers Tournament this past weekend. In the first game, the Yearlings defeated the Pettus Eagles by a score 46-18. The Yearlings were led in scoring by Garrett Fiest and Justin Figueroa. Each had 12 points. Xavier Paiz had eight points, David Ybanez had six points, Matt Elliott had four points. Tyler Mixon, Dylan Orr, James Crabb and Lane McClelland each had two points for the Yearlings.

In the Championship game, the Yearlings defeated the Three Rivers Bulldogs by a score of 42-18. Both teams played extremely hard. The Yearlings played excellent defense. Leading the way defensively was Paiz, Mixon, Ybanez, Figueroa, Fiest. Offensively, the Yearlings’ leading scorer was Figueroa with 16 points. Fiest added ten points and Ybanez had six points. Paiz and Mixon each had four points.

It was a total team effort for the Yearlings. Great job, Yearlings! The Yearlings will host Dilly on Thursday evening in George West at 6:30 p.m.
