The George West Longhorns basketball team had a taste of adversity last week. After losing to Poth in overtime, the Horns traveled to Jourdanton where they dropped a close one by ten. They then came home to lose a nail-biter to Karnes City by two.

George West lost to Poth by the score of 69-63, in overtime, in Poth. Then lost by the score of 65-55 in Jourdanton. ‘We didn’t decide to play until the forth quarter in Jourdanton. We outscored the Indians 23-7 in that quarter, but we were so far down by then that we just couldn’t get back in it,’ said Coach Cunningham.

Friday night saw the Horns lose to Karnes City by a score of 58-56. ‘We played extremely hard Friday. We just couldn’t get enough momentum going at one time to pull away.’ ‘We had a chance to win it at the end and that’s what we are always telling the kids. Just be in a position to win and we’ll see what happens.’

This is the first three game losing streak of the season for the Horns, who’s records are now 18-9 on the season and 5-4 in district play. ‘We still control our own destiny as far as making the play-offs, we just have to take care of our business.’

In the loss to Karnes City, the Horns were led in scoring by Colton Guerrero’s 13 points. Derek Cantu contributed 12 points and 14 rebounds followed by Andrew Katzfey’s eight points off the bench. Seth Pipkin had five points, Joseph Feist had two points, Josey Blevens had two points, Justin Bray had seven points, Alex Combs had two points and Kendall Hensley had five points and 12 rebounds.

The Horns travel to Three Rivers Tuesday night with Natalia coming to George West on Friday.
