The Lady Yearlings traveled to Three Rivers last weekend for their annual tourney. To kick off the morning, the Lady Yearlings battled with Jourdanton Lady Squaws and a battle it was. At half time, George West was on top 11-9. In the third quarter, the Yearlings out-scored the Squaws 11-5 and when the final buzzer sounded the Lady Yearlings won 30-24 to move them to the winner bracket. Scoring for the ladies were Taylor Thompson, 11; Elly Williamson, 8; Walker Wright, 6 and Morgan Miller, 5. These ladies, along with Bella Chapa, Mykala Blevens and Baeja Miles, played aggressive defense.

That afternoon found ‘Big Blue’ versus ‘Big Red’ once again. The whistle, jump ball and the race was on, back and forth, blue scored; then red scored and after the first quarter, ‘Big Blue’ had out-scored ‘Big Red’ 8-7. With more excitement throughout the 2nd quarter, at halftime the Lady Yearlings had slightly pulled away 23-16. After a hard fought battle, the Lady Yearlings were victorious over the Lady Bullpups 31-25 to win the tournament for two years straight.

These ladies played together and also played great defense: Chapa, Miles, Miller, Thompson, Williamson and Wright. Thompson led the scoring against TR with 12, Williamson had 8, Wright added 5, Miller dropped in 4 and Chapa hit 2. Rounding out the Lady Yearling Team were Christina Sok, Summer Garza, Sandra Haros, Sierra Benavides and Lindsay Hajek.
